I met John at my business, Wayne Systems, Inc., (WSI) shortly after he and Karen had moved to California in approximately 1986/1987.  Hr had sought out WSI to do the "list maintenance" on the many agribusinesses in California that John was calling on.  We hhit it off immediately and became very close. Our friendship spannewd several years, untill I sold my business, WSI, and moved to Orange Couyty Unfortunately, the company that purchased WSI did a miserable job of serving WSI's former clients, John included.  During the time before I sold WSI, John and I went hunting in Central Californiaaa, ran several 10K races, John was faster but I could "go longer" and, therefore always bet him, even though I am 10 yeard his senior.  John was also a "regular" at my Monday night mans night out pool shooting parties.  He, Karen my wife and I went out to dinner many times, even celebrating our common anniversaries together.  I can still remember the time John  told me hsi father had contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion..I was "taken a back", as you might expect. Nobody I Knew had AIDS.  It was, therefore, with great anticipation  that I read By His Own Blood.  I couldn't put it down.  As I told John it was very touching and I had gone through 1/2 box of Kleenex.   John has promised to replace the Kleenex.

Life is like a roll of toilet paper.  The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. And, we are all reaching that point in our lives, but what sad way to go!  And needlessly.  And to deny it happened.  And try to point the finger away from themselves.  Again, A great "read", John.  I hope you can write "another"., non-fiction or fiction.

Chuck, you old dog you. Great to hear from you! We did, indeed, have some great times. You were the best runner I ever encountered. And not too shabby of a businessman. All good stuff. Let's get together and laugh. All the best. And thanks, so much, for reading the book. Kleenex is on me.

Johnny....I didn't realize you lost your dad by such an unnecesary way.  I think it's great that you have shared the story with others.  Toni said to pass on her regards, and please give Karen a hug for me.
